“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all [b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1: 26-27)
Standing on the beach, overlooking the great expanse that is the ocean. Gazing up at the night sky on a clear evening. Standing on the top of a mountain after a long hike. It is easy to get lost in the vastness of this universe. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of thinking you don’t amount to anything — you’re just a spec, your life is just a vapor.
Compared to galaxies and eternity, you are just a spec. Your life is just a vapor. But in the beginning, God created man to have dominion over His new creation, starting with Adam (meaning “man” in Greek) and Eve. And by breathing life into them, He gave them His image, potential, and purpose.
God does not create without purpose. And you are no exception. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that “…we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” So next time you stand at the edge of the ocean or gaze into the clear night sky, remember, you play an incredibly important part in the great story that is God’s plan.
